You’re Not Falling Behind, I Promise

I’m often very hard on myself…

Anxious that I should be so much further ahead than I currently am. Putting so much pressure on myself to show up in the world as my best self.

I realized that I have been conditioned to think that I should live like a productive machine in order to have worth in this heavily capitalistic world.

This video is a reminder to myself just as it is a reminder to you that it is okay to slow down…

It is okay to live life on your terms and on your timelines.

You’re not falling behind, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Things may not unfold the way we planned it, but the way we planned it may not be how our lives are meant to unfold.

I realize that I’ve been brainwashed to want everything to come in a rush, to consider idleness and stillness as a sign of falling behind or not being good enough.

Good things take time.

I’d much rather eat a slow-cooked meal that was prepared with love than a microwaved dish that took minutes.

So why am I chasing after shortcuts when my life is meant to be savored?

Your worth is not directly proportionate to a list of accomplishments.

Your value is measured beyond your to-do list.

We are not human doings. We’re human beings.

What we busy ourselves with is not as important as how we are being in the moment.

And I want to be alive. I want to be present to the kaleidoscope that it is to be alive.

As much as I would love to have a crystal ball that tells me exactly how my future will unfold.

Okay. There’s beauty in the mystery.

I’m learning that life is a lot like hiking in a fog.

In the distance, nothing seems clear except the few steps in front of you. But as you keep going, the path clears up around you.

It takes faith to trust that every step you’re taking is leading you exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Maybe the goal is to be content with where you are while you’re climbing.

To be patient, which means to trust your journey. To know that where you are is exactly where you’re meant to be.

It’s easy to think you’re not good enough, because there’s a lot you may want to get better at.

After all, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.

It’s easy to fall into a trap of comparing yourself to others.

When I see someone celebrating an achievement that I’ve been wanting for myself, I often feel jealous, or begin to think that my circumstances are unfair, and that’s why I haven’t achieved it yet.

Sometimes I beat myself up about where I’m at.

But that usually subsides when I decide to shift to compassion.

To choose to celebrate wisdom, let go of comparing myself, and acknowledge that the only person I should be comparing myself with is who I was yesterday.

It’s been said that the journey is more important than the destination.

I’m beginning to believe that’s true.

To realize that there is no schedule or timetable that our lives must adhere to.

We have the freedom to grow.

We have the freedom to grow at our own pace.

Wherever you are in your journey, I want you to know that where you are, as you are, is exactly where you’re meant to be.

You’re not falling behind, I promise.
